Walk the location of the Legend of Alderley guided by Archaeologist Dr Tim Campbell-Green and Alan Garner's daughter Katharine Darby. After lunch enjoy a tour of the Old Medicine House.

Meet at 9.45 am at the shelter on the National Trust Car Park, Alderley Edge SK10 4UB Parking is free for NT members. The morning walk will follow the route of the Legend of Alderley, which inspired all Alan Garner’s Alderley novels. Tim will talk about the history of the landscape and how the archaeology suggests the ancient origins of the Legend. Alan’s daughter, Katharine, will read extracts from The Weirdstone of Brisingamen and The Moon of Gomrath and tell her own family stories. After a buffet lunch at The Old Medicine House, Griselda will show how the influence of the Edge permeates the lives of Alan’s family in his biographical novel, The Stone Book Quartet and in his memoir, Where Shall We Run To? The rest of the afternoon will be spent with Tim and archaeological artefacts from the Edge; looking at some of the objects belonging to Alan’s grandfather; and experiencing the house, the garden and The Blackden Trust shop. The walk will take 2.5 hours for those of average fitness. Sturdy footwear and all-weather clothing are advisable. This will be a relaxed and informal day spent in two beautiful settings.
