The Old Medicine House at Blackden is a Tudor, timber-framed building which was moved from Staffordshire in 1970 by Alan Garner and his wife Griselda. The tour includes a walk round the garden (weather permitting), with its herb beds and collection of prize-winning gooseberry trees, a display of artefacts illustrating the ten thousand years occupation of the site and a tour of The Old Medicine House itself. You will hear stories of the place and of the people who have lived in this patch of Blackden. In our shop, you will be able to buy replica ceramics based on sherds of pottery found in the garden and surrounding fields, and books by writers associated with Blackden.
