Henry Owen-John was a Trustee (including a period as Chair) of The Blackden Trust between 2015 and 2021. He became interested in archaeology in his teens and his enthusiasm was fuelled by taking part in excavations during school holidays. After gaining a degree in the subject from Birmingham University, he worked on rescue excavations, mainly in south east Wales, throughout the 1980s. Since 1991 he has worked for English Heritage (now Historic England), including spells as an Inspector of Ancient Monuments, Regional Director for North West England and Head of World Heritage. A single visit to Blackden proved captivating, particularly the incredible story of the dismantling, moving and reconstruction of the Old Medicine House.
